Art Degrees

We offer the following degrees, both of which will transfer to any senior institution of your choice where you can earn your Bachelor's degree.

Field Trips

Each year, the VSCC Art Department sponsors two or more field trips. There is at least one trip into Nashville each semester to visit galleries, museums, art centers, and/or artists' studios. In addition, the Art Department usually sponsors a more extended Museum trip each year. Previous Museum trips have been to New York, Chicago, St. Louis, Cincinnati and Louisville.

The Student Art Exhibition is held each year in April. This is a competition open to all VSCC art students. Each studio student is required to submit a minimum of 3 works produced during the preceding year. An outside juror selects works for exhibition and awards cash prizes. The Student Show and the Reception and Awards Ceremony are an annual highlight of the academic year.

In addition, the Student Art League operates a gallery in the Library. This exhibit space is open to all League members.

Art Scholarship

In the spring, the Art Department, through the VSCC Foundation, awards a one-semester tuition scholarship to a freshman student returning in their sophomore year as a full-time art student. An independent juror awards the scholarship based on portfolio review (a minimum 2.0 GPA is required).

Student Art League

This student organization provides an opportunity for students to get to know each other outside of class, to interact with the other campus organizations, and to develop and work toward group and individual goals. The Student Art League has established an exhibition space in the Thigpen Library which is open to SAL members. The League also organizes field trips and workshops.
