Veterinary Technology

The Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS) in Veterinary Technology program provides students with both classroom and clinical experiences. Students will spend the majority of their clinical experience in various veterinary settings including referral centers and private clinical practices. Both four semester and six semester options are available.

The Vol State Veterinary Technology program was granted initial accreditation in 2013 by the AVMA. This curriculum is designed to prepare students for the Veterinary Technician National Exam and credentialing (certification, licensure, or registration) which is required in the majority of states. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the national board exam to become credentialed. This is a competitive program that requires a separate application and interview before admittance into the program.

It takes more than just the love of animals to do be a successful Veterinary Technician. They are similar to human nurses with jobs that include: anesthetist, dental hygienist, medical laboratory technician, surgical technician, and radiology technician.
